It’s a little ridiculous to see the gap between the Texas Tech softball team and various other members of the Big 12. There’s so many different areas in which the Red Raiders have managed to separate themselves from the rest of their conference.

And in some stats, it’s probably not accurate to refer to that as a “gap.” In something like RBI, it’s probably a chasm. Or a gulf. I don’t know. It’s really big. Because the Texas Tech softball team has managed to find a way to record 463 RBI up to this point in the season.

That’s 122 more RBI than the next closest Big 12 team.

On a per game basis, Texas Tech is averaging 8.9 RBI per game. Which if you were wondering, that happens to be a lot.

With one series left to play, here’s how Texas Tech softball’s run-producing efforts compare to the rest of the Big 12

Here’s how that compares to the rest of the conference:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 463 RBI in 52 games
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - 341 RBI in 51 games
  • Arizona Wildcats - 335 RBI in 47 games
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 325 RBI in 49 games
  • Iowa State Cyclones - 319 RBI in 51 games
  • UCF Knights - 301 RBI in 51 games
  • Utah Utes - 293 RBI in 52 games
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 271 RBI in 47 games
  • Houston Cougars - 237 RBI in 51 games
  • Baylor Bears - 215 RBI in 51 games
  • BYU Cougars - 205 RBI in 47 games

Nobody else in the Big 12 has made it past 400 RBI on the season so far. Heck, nobody else in the Big 12 has crossed the 350 RBI threshold up to this point.

Texas Tech’s opponent for this weekend’s series, the Baylor Bears, are sitting pretty far below the Red Raiders here (and in just about every other stat category that I can track). The Bears have managed to put up less than half the RBI that Texas Tech has accumulated this season.
