The Texas Tech Red Raiders being remarkably good at college softball is a pretty new thing. When you look at the history of this college program, you’ll find that Texas Tech just flat out hasn’t experienced all of the high level success that we saw from Gerry Glasco and the Red Raiders last season.
With NiJaree Canady back and a ton of All-Big 12 talent all over the field for Texas Tech, it seems likely that the team that just made it to Oklahoma City for the first time ever is going to have a ton of success once more.
Here’s what Texas Tech fans had to say about the Red Raiders getting the No. 1 overall ranking in the Softball America preseason top 25 NCAA softball rankings.
Texas Tech softball fans celebrate as the Red Raiders earn No. 1 preseason ranking ahead of 2026 college softball season
I’m sure you’ll be surprised to learn that Texas Tech softball fans are thrilled about this.

Yes, it does seem good.
This is, in fact, the first time ever that the Red Raiders have been presented with a preseason No. 1 college softball ranking. And it really feels like Texas Tech is in the perfect sort of position to build upon the success that it experienced a season ago as the Red Raiders made a run to the Women’s College World Series championship series last year.

Just shows the people who rank softball are more knowledgeable than those that rank football. 😏❤️🖤

If Texas Tech is able to sustain the level of success and build upon what the Red Raiders accomplished a season ago, then this season has the makings of something special. And that would be a thrill to watch for Texas Tech softball fans.

There’s some unfinished business from last season’s run to Oklahoma City. Texas Tech came up short of accomplishing something that would have been monumental for this program. Let’s see if Texas Tech can make it happen this season.
