Is it too much to say that Texas Tech fans must absolutely applaud Gerry Glasco for his truly bold gamble of stealing home vs. UCLA? I don't think that's too much. Not at all.
As the Texas Tech Red Raiders battle the UCLA Bruins and try to stay in the winner’s bracket of the 2025 Women’s College World Series, Glasco is making some really impressive and admirable decisions in this game. And that includes that huge gamble of trying to steal home against the UCLA Bruins to break open a tie game.
I mean, deciding to steal any base carries some heavy risk, but trying to steal home while your team has two outs and has also struggled to get consistent contact against UCLA’s pitching staff? That’s one heck of a choice. I mean, such a gamble. It takes a bold head coach to make a choice like that.
But it sure looks like Glasco isn’t scared of making decisions that would frighten others. The head coach of the Red Raiders softball team deserves so much credit for the work he’s done all year to get this team to this point and he definitely deserves a ton of praise for this call here.
WATCH: Texas Tech Red Raiders steal home to take slim lead in 5th inning vs. the UCLA Bruins
You’ve absolutely got to see this play:
What a choice. What a gamble. And it absolutely paid off for the Red Raiders. In what had been a scoreless game for Texas Tech and UCLA, Glasco’s choice to have Makalya Garcia dash over from third base to home in the 5th inning certainly worked out. Glasco wasn’t afraid of taking a risk and that’s such an encouraging thing to see.
Texas Tech fans should certainly be grateful that Glasco is leading the Red Raiders and a choice like this should do nothing but reinforce that feeling. He is certainly the right coach for the Texas Tech softball program.
