NiJaree Canady and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are moving on to the winner’s bracket after handing the Ole Miss Rebels a shutout beating in game three of the 2023 Women’s College World Series. Canady was truly remarkable (and seemingly unstoppable) as she delivered a 10-strikeout performance on college softball’s biggest stage.
Arguably the most impressive thing about this is that Canady was able to absolutely shut down an Ole Miss team that was riding a bit of momentum heading into the Women’s College World Series. But Canady was efficient (and dominant) and certainly improved upon her already remarkable season ERA in the process.
This was a true statement win for the Red Raiders. This is a program that might be new to the Women’s College World Series scene, but Texas Tech is here to compete and that’s truly fascinating (and really exciting) to see.

All of that said, Canady isn’t the only Red Raider who deserves some serious credit for getting this win over Ole Miss. The Rebels were really strong in the circle as well, but Lauren Allred was able to get a clutch single in the 4th inning to get on base, which allowed Alana Johnson to smack an RBI double.
That sort of timely hitting was vital for Texas Tech being able to get this Women’s College World Series game win over the Rebels.
Going along with that, Texas Tech played a clean game. No mistakes. No issues. No errors. When it came to fielding, Texas Tech had no problems. The Red Raiders were able to execute all throughout the game in a way that allowed for Canady to continue to thrive in the circle. And that’s great to see. That’s a huge reason as to why TTU got this win.
Well that and the fact that a team like Ole Miss that is used to hitting a few home runs and score in bursts was held to just two hits. That certainly matters.
