Texas Tech basketball picked to finish 7th in Big 12 preseason poll

This week, the preseason Big 12 basketball poll was released. The Red Raiders were picked seventh with 135 votes.

Kansas topped the poll with nine first-place votes. Also ahead of the Red Raiders are Houston, Iowa State, Baylor, Arizona, and Cincinnati in order.

The Big 12 also released its preseason all-conference teams. Unfortunately, no Red Raiders made either the first or second team.

Kansas big man Hunter Dickinson was named the preseason Player of the Year. With him on the first team are Caleb Love of Arizona, LJ Cryer of Houston, J’Wan Roberts of Houston, and, Tamin Lipsey of Iowa State.

On the second team, are Norchad Omier of Baylor, Jeremy Roach of Baylor, Keshon Gilbert of Iowa State, Dajuan Harris Jr. of Kansas, and Coleman Hawkins of K-State. The Red Raiders' season tips off on November 5th at home against Bethune-Cookman.

Texas Tech football reveals Patrick Mahomes themed jerseys

Also this week, the Texas Tech football program unveiled to the public the new "galvanized" Patrick Mahomes II jerseys. They will be worn against Colorado on November 9th.

The uniforms feature Mahomes' gladiator logo on the chest. According to TexasTech.com, "The Mahomes Strategy uniform features a Dark Grey tackle swill with printed metallic films and Power Red accents. Inspired by the 45-degree bevel found across Texas Tech's campus and the angular nature of Mahomes' iconography, the helmet, logos, and numbers are displayed in a metallic film with galvanized finishes."

"Seeing my own logo on the Texas Tech uniform I put so much blood, sweat, and tears in is one of the most meaningful off-field accomplishments of my career," said Mahomes. "I want to thank the three-stripe family for giving me this one-of-a-kind opportunity."

Texas Tech basketball head coach Grant McCasland reportedly gets contract extension

According to college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Texas Tech basketball head coach Grant McCasland has reportedly agreed to a contract extention to remain the Red Raiders' head coach through the 2029-30 season. No official word of an extension has come from the university or McCasland.

Rothstein did not provide any information on the financial terms of the deal. However, after leading Tech to a 23-11 mark and an NCAA Tournament appearance last season, McCasland is in line for a raise. Of course, giving coaches a contract extension after only one season in Lubbock is nothing new for Texas Tech A.D. Kirby Hocutt who did the same with former football head coach Kliff Kingsbury and current football head coach Joey McGuire.

Texas Tech misses out on 5-star basketball recruit

Last month, the Texas Tech basketball team hosted five-star high school prospect Shelton Henderson for an official visit. Unfortunately, it appears that he won't be calling Lubbock home, though.

This week, Henderson released his final three schools and Tech didn't make the list. He has narrowed his options to Texas, Duke, and Louisville. The Red Raiders are still looking to add their first high school recruit for the class of 2025.

Texas Tech soccer picks up a point against Colorado

Thursday night in Lubbock, the Texas Tech soccer team picked up a point via a 1-1 draw with Colorado. That ended the nation-leading 19-match home winning streak.

Tech has to feel that this result was a disappointment given how the Red Raiders dominated the action for most of the night. The home team held a 23-5 advantage in shots and led 1-0 into the game's 73rd minute.

With the point, Tech is now tied with No. 12 TCU for first place in the Big 12 standings. On Thursday, the Horned Frogs secured a 3-1 win over West Virginia.

The Red Raiders and Horned Frogs both have 17 points, while WVU sits one behind with 16. Thanks to the draw in Lubbock, Colorado moved to 14 total points.

The Red Raiders' next match is Sunday at 1 p.m. against Iowa State in Lubbock. After that comes a key road game at West Virginia on Thursday, November 17.
