Top international high school prospect visits Texas Tech basketball program
This week, the Texas Tech basketball program hosted one of the top international prospects on the market, Oscar Goodman. The 6-foot-7 forward from New Zealand is reportedly down to Texas Tech, Michigan, Ohio State, and Georgetown.
In 2023, Goodman was named the MVP of FIBA U16 Asian Championship and was an All-Star 5 in the 2024 U17 World Cup. He is listed as a four-star prospect by On3.com. Should he commit to the Red Raiders, he would be the program's first member of the class of 2025.
Two Texas Tech football players earn weekly honors
Following the Texas Tech football team's big win over Arizona on Saturday night, a pair of Red Raiders have earned weekly honors. Of course, the first is Tahj Brooks.
The senior running back was named Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week (along with Arizona State RB Cam Skattebo). Against Arizona, Brooks ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns in the 28-22 win.
Brooks has topped the 100-yard mark in all five games that he has played in this season. He is currently third on the Texas Tech career rushing yardage list.
Meanwhile, linebacker Jacob Rodriguez was named the Chuck Bednarik Player of the Week as the outstanding defensive player in the nation. That came after he racked up 13 tackles and forced a fumble against Arizona.
Texas Tech soccer continues its torrid pace
Friday, the Texas Tech soccer team continued its rampage through the Big 12 by knocking off Baylor 1-0 in Lubbock. The win moved the Red Raiders to 10-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in Big 12 play. As a result, Tech sits atop the league standings.
The Red Raiders dominated play all night holding Baylor to only two shots on goal. Then, in the 62nd minute, the home team found the back of the net when Ashleigh Williams scored her 34th career goal.
This is the 11th 10-win season for head coach Tom Stone who has been leading the Red Raiders for 18 years. Tech returns to action Thursday night against No. 14 Colorado. The game begins at 7 p.m.
Texas Tech vs. Baylor kickoff time set
The Texas Tech football team's October 19 game against Baylor will kick off at 3 p.m. Central. It will be broadcast on ESPN 2.
The homecoming game for the Red Raiders will see head coach Joey McGuire take on his former employer for the third time in his career. So far, he is 1-1 against the Bears.
Two seasons ago, Baylor dominated the Red Raiders 45-17 in Lubbock. Last season, the Red Raiders returned the favor in Waco by taking down the Bears 39-14.
Both Baylor and Texas Tech are off this week and will come into the October 19 showdown ready to begin the second half of the season. All-time, Baylor leads the series 41-40-1.
