After capturing the first regular-season Big 12 title in program history, the No. 11 Texas Tech softball team is now trying to ensure it gets to host an NCAA regional by winning the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City. Thursday, Tech got off to a good start in that pursuit by shutting out Baylor.

In the 4-0 quarterfinal win, it was once again NiJaree Canady who led the way. Tech's ace and the best pitcher in the country, she tossed 6.2 innings while giving up only one hit and striking out 13.

The junior came close to tossing a perfect game by not allowing a base runner through five innings. That was more than enough for the Red Raiders, who got four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Demi Elder drove in the game's first run on a fielder's choice before Mihyia Davis brought home three runs when she singled to right to drive home a run. On that play, Baylor's outfield couldn't corral the ball, allowing Elder and Davis to also score thanks to the error.

Now, the Red Raiders prepare to play No. 5 seed Arizona State at 3 p.m. Central in the semifinals. The winner will play in the championship game on Sunday.
