Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders didn’t have anything happen over the weekend, but they’re still being considered the best team in the Big 12 by the lovely folks who vote on the AP Poll’s Top 25 college football rankings.

But while the Red Raiders were resting during their bye week, other folks in the Big 12 were pretty busy. Like the Iowa State Cyclones, who pummeled the Arizona Wildcats, or the Arizona State Sun Devils and BYU Cougars, who were both involved in very stressful conference games over the weekend.

It was a fun weekend of college football and now we’ve got some rankings shaking up across the country.

AP Poll Top 25: Texas Tech Red Raiders still sit at the top of the Big 12 in latest college football rankings

Here’s the Big 12’s representatives in the week six edition of the AP Poll rankings:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (No. 11 overall)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (No. 14 overall)
  • BYU Cougars (No. 23 overall)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (No. 25 overall)

It’s good to see Arizona State make it back into the Top 25 here. Truly, it is. The fact that the Sun Devils were completely dropped out of the rankings for a last minute loss on the road against the Mississippi State Bulldogs (who are 4-1 overall and just went toe-to-toe in overtime against the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers) is absurd.

The Sun Devils shouldn’t have fallen that far for that and it’s good to see them back in the rankings (even if they might just be college football’s most stressful team around).

The BYU Cougars looked pretty impressive in their win against Colorado over the weekend. Admittedly, I don’t have too much insight on that one as I was falling asleep trying to pay attention while that game was going on, but I was impressed with the way the Cougars climbed back into that one after falling behind 14-3 in the first quarter.

As a whole, I’d like to see more Big 12 teams ranked here, but I’m not going to complain too much about that here. I think the Red Raiders will have more opportunities to move up a bit in the rankings and they’ve got the talent to do just that. All they need to do is keep winning.
