Well, the Texas Tech women’s basketball season has taken a frustrating turn. After getting started with a 19-0 record, the Lady Raiders have managed to lose back-to-back Big 12 games, the latest being by a dozen points against the BYU Cougars while on the road.

That’s far from what needs to be happening for the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. While they’re certainly good (and the Cougars definitely were better than the Lady Raiders in the head-to-head matchup between the two), BYU isn’t exactly the best team in the Big 12 right now. But the Cougars were good enough to beat Texas Tech by a dozen points, which is an issue.

This game got off to a horrendous start for Texas Tech as the Lady Raiders found themselves down 25-16 after just the first quarter. That, more or less, set the tone for the game.

The second quarter was mildly better as the Lady Raiders scored 18 points, but they still trailed at halftime by a score of 40-34.

Which is a little better, I suppose.

Things got worse in a hurry though! Texas Tech scored just 14 points in the third quarter and then 13 points in the fourth quarter. The offense was incredibly ineffective while on the road against BYU. As a team, Texas Tech made just 33 percent of its shots while the Cougars made 47 percent of their field goal attempts.

On top of that, turnovers were a little bit of an issue for the Lady Raiders. Texas Tech ended up committing 21 turnovers which BYU then turned into 24 points. To their credit, the Lady Raiders were able to get 15 points off of 18 turnovers from BYU, but that just wasn’t enough.

At one point in this game, the Cougars actually had an 18 point lead over Texas Tech. While the Lady Raiders may have aspirations of having fun in March, they’ve got to figure a few things out sooner rather than later. Losing 73-61 on the road against a team that is currently in the middle of the Big 12 isn’t great.
