The Texas Tech Red Raiders have a ton of potential to accomplish quite a bit this season. And the Red Raiders have already demonstrated that they can be kind of dangerous (especially in Lubbock), thus the No. 15 ranking that Grant McCasland’s team has earned.
But Saturday evening, Texas Tech made it clear just how good this team can be. In a game that featured an impressive and dominant second half showing from the Red Raiders, the No. 15 Texas Tech men’s basketball team ended up handing the No. 11 BYU Cougars a 13-point beating.
Prior to this matchup, BYU was tied for the top spot in the Big 12. Now the Red Raiders and the Cougars are tied for the No. 3 spot in the Big 12 standings (with Texas Tech having the tiebreaker over BYU thanks to the Red Raiders’ 13-point win over the Cougars).
No. 15 Texas Tech’s strong second half provided the Red Raiders with a 13-point victory over the No. 11 BYU Cougars
The first half of this matchup featured plenty of back and forth scoring and Texas Tech found itself up just one point by the time halftime rolled around. The Red Raiders and Cougars experienced nine ties and six lead changes throughout this matchup.
For so much of this game, it really seemed like this one was going to come down to the wire.

And in the second half, BYU got off to a hot start and built a nine point lead over the Red Raiders. And then Texas Tech responded by going on an 11-0 run and taking complete and total control down the stretch to win 84-71.

In the second half against BYU, Texas Tech was lights out shooting (hitting 57 percent from the field) and the Red Raiders were really effective from behind the three point line. Texas Tech managed to make 46 percent of its second half three point attempts, which certainly helped elevate the Red Raiders past the Cougars.
And then there’s the second half rebound advantage that Texas Tech had as the Red Raiders grabbed 18 total rebounds to BYU’s 12.
The Red Raiders are on a bit of a roll right now and they’re sitting at No. 3 in the Big 12. This is the perfect opportunity for them to keep on moving.
