With the regular season wrapping up and the College Football Playoff getting closer and closer, it’s becoming interesting to see how the College Football Playoff committee is ranking teams. Of course, Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders don’t have too much to worry about right now as they’re the top team in the Big 12 according to the CFP committee.
The Red Raiders also happen to be the top team in the Big 12 at the moment and are positioned well to make the playoff. Of course, they need to take care of business against the West Virginia Mountaineers this week (and then whoever they meet up with in the Big 12 title game in Arlington).
College Football Playoff rankings: Texas Tech takes the lead among the 5 teams from the Big 12 in the Top 25 rankings
Here’s how the Big 12 stacks up this week when looking at the Top 25 rankings from the College Football Playoff Committee:
- No. 5 Texas Tech Red Raiders - 10-1
- No. 11 BYU Cougars - 10-1
- No. 13 Utah Utes - 9-2
- No. 20 Arizona State Sun Devils - 8-3
- No. 25 Arizona Wildcats - 8-3
Again, Texas Tech is the highest-ranked Big 12 team here and happens to be leading the College Football Playoff charge for the conference. The BYU Cougars aren’t too far behind, but there is a noteworthy gap as they sit at No. 11. BYU is also 10-1, but the Cougars’ lone loss came against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Utah comes in at No. 13 and is the third Big 12 team to get ranked here. They’re going to have a hard time making it into the College Football Playoff because it’d take a fair bit of chaos to help them make it in at this point in the season.
Rounding out the bunch are the Arizona State Sun Devils at No. 20 overall and No. 4 in the Big 12 and then the Arizona Wildcats at No. 25 overall and No. 5 in the Big 12.
