Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro really shined in Kliff Kingsbury’s offense in 2013

There weren’t many bright spots for the Kliff Kingsbury era of Texas Tech football. We’re talking about the time Kingsbury was a head coach, not the quarterback for the Red Raiders. There just weren’t many great things that happened during Kingsbury’s time running the Red Raiders. But, to be completely fair, the man’s offenses were often thrilling to watch.

Like in 2013, when Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro caught over 100 passes and racked up over 1300 receiving yards. Amaro was a dangerous offensive weapon for the Red Raiders as they tried to figure out things in Kingsbury’s first season.

And, generally speaking, it worked. At least it did for Amaro. The man provided Texas Tech with just the 15th season where a receiver (or in this case a tight end) had at least 1000 yards receiving.

Texas Tech football history: Jace Amaro had no issues catching a ton of passes for Kliff Kingsbury’s first year as head coach in Lubbock

In the entirety of the 2013 Texas Tech football season, Amaro caught 106 passes for 1352 yards and seven touchdowns. So far, Amaro is still the only Red Raiders tight end to ever have this sort of season with over 1000 receiving yards.

Throughout the year, Amaro managed to average 12.8 yards per reception and then also had an average of 14 receiving yards per game.

He also had quite a few impressive individual game performances, like the time he had 15 receptions for 174 yards against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Or when he had eight catches for 142 yards and a touchdown against Stephen F. Austin.

Amaro also managed to get nine receptions and rack up 143 yards against the Iowa State Cyclone and then recorded nine more catches against West Virginia and then turned that into 136 yards and two more touchdowns against the Mountaineers.
