Despite the fact that Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders managed to go 5-0 through the entirety of last week, the Texas Tech softball team is sitting at No. 3 in the latest college softball rankings from D1 Softball.

It’s not a consequential thing this early on in the season (and there’s also certainly an argument to be had about whether or not top 25 rankings are really a thing of consequence, but now is not the time for that).

That said, it is a little annoying that Texas Tech is sitting behind the Texas Longhorns right now. That’s not the case in other college softball rankings and it is here.

But again, this is far from the end of the world.

Right now, what’s worth keeping an eye on is the fact that the Red Raiders will have a chance to continue to build their resume as the season continues on. And that includes the six games that Texas Tech will play in throughout this weekend.

Texas Tech softball ranks at No. 3 in D1 Softball college softball rankings despite 5-0 week for the Red Raiders

Here’s the top 25 college softball teams in the country according to the team over at D1 Softball.

  • No. 1 - Tennessee Lady Vols
  • No. 2 - Texas Longhorns
  • No. 3 - Texas Tech Red Raiders
  • No. 4 - Florida Gators
  • No. 5 - Oklahoma Sooners
  • No. 6 - Nebraska Cornhuskers
  • No. 7 -Arkansas Razorbacks
  • No. 8 - Alabama Crimson Tide
  • No. 9 - UCLA Bruins
  • No. 10 - Florida State Seminoles
  • No. 11 - Georgia Bulldogs
  • No. 12 - Virginia Tech Hokies
  • No. 13 - Stanford Cardinal
  • No. 14 - Mississippi State Bulldogs
  • No. 15 - Oklahoma State Cowgirls
  • No. 16 - Arizona Wildcats
  • No. 17 - Texas A&M Aggies
  • No. 18 - Oregon Ducks
  • No. 19 - LSU Tigers
  • No. 20 - Virginia Cavaliers
  • No. 21 - Duke Blue Devils
  • No. 22 - South Carolina Gamecocks
  • No. 23 - Grand Canyon Antelopes
  • No. 24 - Arizona State Sun Devils
  • No. 25 - Penn State Nittany Lions

Texas Tech has some work to do, but there’s still plenty of time for that work to get done. It’s not ideal that the Red Raiders, at 16-1 overall, are sitting behind the Texas Longhorns, who have two fewer wins than the Red Raiders up to this point in the season. That said, the Florida Gators probably feel the same as they’re sitting at No. 4 despite being 19-0 on the season.
