On Sunday, Krista Gerlich and the No. 21 ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders (20-3 overall, 7-3 Big 12) have a shot to really, visibly, tangibly improve their season as they welcome the No. 12 TCU Horned Frogs (20-2 overall, 8-1 Big 12) to Lubbock.
This is an opportunity for the Lady Raiders to snap a losing streak against TCU and to also go out and get a ranked win over one of the best teams in the Big 12. It’s a great opportunity. But it might be a bit tricky.
While the Lady Raiders and the Horned Frogs aren’t all that far off from a record perspective, it does feel like things are a bit different when you start looking at some of the numbers. I’ve said before that I’m no advanced stats expert or a phenomenal mathematician, but I do like looking at some numbers here and there to evaluate teams a bit.
And it seems like the Horned Frogs are a good bit better than the Lady Raiders.
How do the No. 12 TCU Horned Frogs and the No. 21 Texas Tech Lady Raiders compare statistically?
Let’s go ahead and dig into some of the numbers a bit.
Texas Tech is scoring 73.8 points per game (which is pretty good!) while the Horned Frogs are averaging 80.8 points per game (which is a good bit better than the Lady Raiders). On the defensive side of things, Texas Tech is giving up 56 points per game while TCU is allowing 54.3 points per game.
So, just on a surface look at it all, TCU is scoring more and permitting fewer points per game. That’s a little bit of a concerning thing.
When it comes to rebounding, Texas Tech is also at a disadvantage here. The Lady Raiders are grabbing 36.4 rebounds per game all while TCU is averaging 42 rebounds per game. The same sort of story is present in assists, where the Horned Frogs are getting 19.2 assists per game while Texas Tech has 15.3 assists per game.
