Recently, Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have thrived in picking up new players through the transfer portal. It’s one reason that this particular Texas Tech football team is having as much success as it is with the whole College Football Playoff berth and Big 12 championship and all that jazz.
But unfortunately, the transfer portal isn’t exactly a one-way road. Players can find their way to Lubbock through the transfer portal and players will apparently be on their way out of the Texas Tech football program through the transfer portal.
As it turns out, the Red Raiders are apparently set to lose a pretty talented wide receiver through the transfer portal as former three-star recruit Kelby Valsin has announced his intention to continue his career somewhere other than Lubbock, Texas.
Texas Tech wide receiver Kelby Valsin announces his desire to leave Lubbock and the Red Raiders through the transfer portal
Valsin made his announcement on social media, taking the opportunity to thank the Texas Tech Red Raiders and express an abundance of gratitude in the process. Valsin’s note really is well done and it’s something that Texas Tech fans should see.

I appreciate the way that he’s handling this and it’ll be intriguing to see where Valsin ends up playing next as his career continues.
Valsin, who is from Arlington, Texas, was being recruited out of high school by teams all over the country. Out of high school, the Texas Tech Red Raiders were able to beat out Boston College, California, Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Stanford, TCU, Utah, Washington, SMU, Arkansas State, Washington State, and so many others for Valsin’s commitment.
It’s not currently clear where Valsin could end up, but it seems likely that plenty of coaches and programs will want him to be able to play for them. It stands to reason that he will draw plenty of interest in this recruiting cycle as well.
