Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are continuing their magical season with yet another dominant victory for the Texas Tech football team. The latest win for the Red Raiders came on the road by way of a commanding, shutout victory over Rich Rodriguez and the West Virginia Mountaineers.
It honestly feels so good to see a shutout from Texas Tech’s defense, and that is truly something to celebrate, but just as impressive as the defense was, the Red Raiders’ offense was equally impressive against West Virginia.
Texas Tech’s offense was firing early as the Red Raiders very quickly built a 28-0 lead over the Mountaineers. By the time the game was over, the Texas Tech Red Raiders left Morgantown with a 49-0 victory.
Texas Tech advances to 11-1 and is headed to the Big 12 championship game after the Red Raiders’ dominant road win over West Virginia
Texas Tech happened to outgain West Virginia by a margin of 572 yards to 180 yards while also holding on to the ball for 40 minutes flat. The Mountaineers were only able to muster nine first downs while the Red Raiders racked up a total of 33 first downs.
West Virginia, as a team, was held to just 37 rushing yards on 1.7 yards per carry. The Texas Tech defense managed to snag a couple of interceptions, totaled four sacks, and had nine tackles for loss. The defense had an elite showing in Morgantown and this is a game that Texas Tech had complete and total control of from start to finish.
With the win, Texas Tech is now 11-1 overall and 8-1 in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders are now headed on to the Big 12 championship where they’ll meet up with the BYU Cougars in a rematch that I am certainly looking forward to.
