Well, the Arizona Wildcats have a decent little advantage over the top teams in the Big 12 at the moment, but they’re not totally out of striking distance from the logjam that exists right behind them. And in that logjam is Grant McCasland and his Texas Tech basketball team.
The Red Raiders, with a 21-7 overall record and 11-4 conference record, have been really impressive for so many moments throughout this season. And they are in the midst of a four-way tie for second in the conference standings at the moment.
And March is right around the corner. Quite literally, we are hours away from the month of March being here. Conference tournaments start soon. The NCAA tournament will follow shortly after that. So there’s no margin for error for the teams at the top of the Big 12 right now. And Saturday's slate of games will help sort everything out.
Big 12 basketball standings, February 28: Arizona Wildcats still hold the No. 1 spot in the conference as March starts tomorrow

It’s so fun seeing the race with the teams tied for second right now. Iowa State, Houston, Kansas, and Texas Tech are all locked right there. And it’s going to be fun to see how that plays out. Obviously with the matchup between Iowa State and Texas Tech today, that grouping will not be set the same at the end of the day the way that they are right now.
