Folks, I think the Texas Tech pitching staff has a few issues. And one really, really big issue that the Red Raiders are having to navigate is the fact that the Texas Tech pitching staff has managed to issue 128 walks through just 24 games.
Break out the calculator and you’ll find that that’s 5.3 free baserunners for the other team per game. That’s DREADFUL. Just truly bad stuff. And unfortunately, even though Texas Tech’s batting stats show pretty impressive hitting approaches, the same can’t be said about Texas Tech’s pitching this year.
And all of those sorts of pitching struggles, unfortunately, put an extra emphasis on the Red Raiders needing to continue to excel at the plate.
Texas Tech has allowed 128 walks on the season so far and that should definitely concern Red Raider fans
Here’s how things look in the conference with Texas Tech struggling more than anyone else in the Big 12 is when it comes to walks given up this season:
- West Virginia Mountaineers - 83 walks in 21 games
- UCF Knights - 83 walks in 23 games
- Kansas State Wildcats - 84 walks in 25 games
- Baylor Bears - 87 walks in 24 games
- Utah Utes - 89 walks in 22 games
- Cincinnati Bearcats - 96 walks in 27 games
- Arizona Wildcats - 96 walks in 24 games
- Kansas Jayhawks - 100 walks in 24 games
- TCU Horned Frogs - 107 walks in 24 games
- Houston Cougars - 110 walks in 24 games
- Oklahoma State Cowboys - 114 walks in 25 games
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 115 walks in 24 games
- BYU Cougars - 121 walks in 23 games
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 128 walks in 24 games
There is a very good chance that there might not be a magic quick fix for the Red Raiders this season. That said, Adam Hayes looked really impressive during a midweek matchup against New Mexico. So, maybe something interesting will happen sooner rather than later?
