If you didn’t already know, now feels like a great time to let you know that the Texas Tech softball team is really good at getting hits. Time and time again, Gerry Glasco’s Texas Tech Red Raiders have proven to be capable of getting contact.

And the Texas Tech softball team is so good at this that the Red Raiders have managed to rack up 479 hits so far this season. If that feels like a lot of hits, that’s for good reason. It’s just shy of 10 hits per game.

Which is a lot of hits. Especially when you factor in that the Red Raiders are often run ruling folks, which means the games that they’re playing in are often shorter than they would be otherwise.

The Red Raiders are dangerous at the plate and they’re far better than even the next best team in the Big 12.

Texas Tech has 64 more hits than the next best Big 12 softball team and the season isn’t done yet

Here’s what the hits leaderboard looks like when you take a look around the entirety of the Big 12 right now:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 479 hits in 48 games
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - 415 hits in 48 games
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 411 hits in 46 games
  • Iowa State Cyclones - 408 hits in 46 games
  • UCF Knights - 399 hits in 48 games
  • Arizona Wildcats - 392 hits in 44 games
  • Utah Utes - 377 hits in 48 games
  • Baylor Bears - 359 hits in 48 games
  • Houston Cougars - 357 hits in 48 games
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 354 hits in 43 games
  • BYU Cougars - 314 hits in 44 games

The gap between the Red Raiders and the Arizona State Sun Devils at No. 2 is larger than the gap between Arizona State and the Oklahoma State Cowgirls at No. 10 in the conference. Nobody else in the Big 12 is coming close to what Texas Tech is accomplishing at the plate this season.
