Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech Red Raiders may have struggled early on, but things sure have gotten better for the Texas Tech baseball team as of late. And right now, there’s nobody else in the Big 12 that is hitting quite like Texas Tech.
Texas Tech is leading the Big 12 in batting average right now with a .364 batting average, which is pretty dang impressive. Folks, the next-closest team, at this moment, is the Arizona State Sun Devils at .331. That’s an absolutely massive 33-point gap separating the top team in the conference from the second-best team.
The gap between Texas Tech and Arizona State is larger than the gap between the Sun Devils at No. 2 and the Cincinnati Bearcats at No. 5, which is pretty impressive. The Red Raiders are further ahead of the No. 2 team in the conference than the No. 2 team is from the No. 5 team.
Texas Tech’s .364 batting average is currently far better than what the rest of the Big 12 bring to the table
Here’s what the Big 12 conference looks like when it comes to batting averages so far:
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - .364
- Arizona State Sun Devils - .331
- Kansas State Wildcats - .322
- West Virginia Mountaineers - .318
- Cincinnati Bearcats - .315
- UCF Knights - .291
- Houston Cougars - .290
- Utah Utes - .288
- BYU Cougars - .287
- Oklahoma State Cowboys - .277
- Kansas Jayhawks - .276
- Arizona Wildcats - .272
- Baylor Bears - .269
- TCU Horned Frogs - .248
It really does help that the Red Raiders have such impressive hitters. Right now, Jesse Rusinek is leading the way with a .441 batting average. Caden Ferraro has a .403 batting average and Kyeler Thompson has a .395 batting average. Linkin Garcia has a .381 batting average, Connor Shouse has a .375 batting average, and Robin Villeneuve has a .375 batting average.
There’s an abundance of depth here for Texas Tech and that’s something that should be celebrated, especially if the Red Raiders can keep that up.
