Very few good things actually happened over the weekend for the Texas Tech baseball team. Truly, things were rough for the Red Raiders on the baseball diamond. Friday’s and Saturday’s losses were frustrating in unique ways and then Game 3 on Sunday just delivered more heartbreak for the Red Raiders.

In a way, it was kinda fascinating. Texas Tech found three different ways to lose this weekend. Which sucks, but is also intriguing to look at if you can stand to look at it all objectively. And if you’re going to try to be objective, let’s look at some stats for the Red Raiders after this series. That said, as soon as you see these stats, you’ll be concerned for Texas Tech.

Here’s a few stats that definitely feel alarming from the Horned Frogs sweeping Texas Tech:

No. 1: Texas Tech gave up 11 runs per game and was outscored by 12 runs across the entire series

While Saturday and Sunday had close matchups between the Horned Frogs and the Red Raiders, Friday’s game really showcased just how bad things are for this Texas Tech pitching staff right now. Because that Friday night game that ended in 18-8 really skewed things a bit.

But still, even in the two close losses, the Red Raiders weren’t exactly sharp on the mound and Texas Tech was trying to claw its way back into those games at times. Game 2 ended in 13 innings by a score of 10-9 and then there’s the Game 3 mess where the Red Raiders lost despite leading in the 8th inning.

No. 2: The fact that the Red Raiders couldn’t get hits in Game 3 is a huge reason as to why the Red Raiders were swept

For a team that is hitting .356 on the season, it’s probably a little alarming that Texas Tech managed to get just four hits against the Horned Frogs on Sunday. TCU’s pitching staff managed to combine for 11 strikeouts against the Red Raiders on Sunday.

With the way Texas Tech’s pitching staff stepped up in Game 3, it would have been great if they’d gotten some support in the form of runs on the scoreboard.

No. 3: Texas Tech’s team ERA is now absurdly awful at 7.55

Back to that whole “the Red Raiders gave up 11 runs per game this weekend” thing for a moment. Texas Tech’s pitching staff isn’t having a good season. Collectively, as a group, they are struggling in some really awful ways right now.

Opposing batters have been able to piece together a collective batting average of .302 against Texas Tech’s pitchers. The Red Raiders have given up 49 home runs. That’s concerning and alarming and Texas Tech is going to have plenty of problems this season because every game is a home run derby for them.
