I don’t know that Texas Tech has the best baseball team in the Big 12 this season, but the Red Raiders are most likely the most intriguing and entertaining team in the conference this year. So far, Texas Tech has done a fantastic job of going out and scoring runs on a very regular basis. The Red Raiders can explode for runs against just about anyone.

As a result, there is an RBI gap between Texas Tech and the rest of the Big 12. And there’s a good chance that said gap will continue to grow because Texas Tech’s lineup doesn’t seem to have any obvious vulnerabilities.

So far this season, Texas Tech has managed to drive in 248 runs through 24 games. Doing some quick math on that and that’s over 10 runs driven in per game.

That’s pretty impressive. What might be more impressive is that there’s a sizable gap that exists between the Texas Tech baseball team as the top and then the Kansas State Wildcats at No. 2. Right now, the Red Raiders have 28 more RBIs than the Wildcats with Kansas State having played one more game than Texas Tech.

Texas Tech has a commanding lead in RBIs over the rest of the Big 12

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 248 RBIs 24 games
  • Kansas State Wildcats - 220 RBIs in 25 games
  • Cincinnati Bearcats - 208 RBIs in 27 games
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - 205 RBIs in 27 games
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys - 183 RBIs in 25 games
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 170 RBIs in 24 games
  • West Virginia Mountaineers - 165 RBIs in 21 games
  • BYU Cougars - 160 RBIs in 23 games
  • TCU Horned Frogs - 160 RBIs in 24 games
  • Houston Cougars - 142 RBIs in 24 games
  • UCF Knights - 140 RBIs in 23 games
  • Arizona Wildcats - 130 RBIs in 24 games
  • Utah Utes - 130 RBIs in 22 games
  • Baylor Bears - 129 RBIs in 24 games

It’s interesting, there are a handful of teams at the top above the 200 RBI mark for the season already, but the drop off from there is noteworthy. The gap between Arizona State and Oklahoma State is almost as large as the gap between Texas Tech and Kansas State.
