The past couple of weeks probably feel a lot better for Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech Red Raiders than what so much of the opening weekend of the 2026 college baseball season was like.
That opening weekend was a true disaster for the Red Raiders when they took on and then lost in deflating fashion to the Oklahoma Sooners, Vanderbilt Commodores, and the Arkansas Razorbacks in Arlington.Â
But since then? When Texas Tech has admittedly played much weaker competition? As the Red Raiders have happened to return home for these matchups? Well, Texas Tech is now on a six-game winning streak. I’d argue it’s a great thing that the Red Raiders have won a half-dozen games in a row. I, for one, think things like that should happen more often.
Texas Tech’s latest win happens to be a 17-4 Friday evening victory over the likes of the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners.Â
Big 12 baseball standings, records: Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are right in the middle of the Big 12 after 13-run win
And while we’re still a couple weeks out from being able to actually get tangible conference standings, we can indeed go through and evaluate things from a few different angles, including non-conference matchups.Â
Here’s what the Big 12 looks like from that angle.
- West Virginia Mountaineers - 7-1 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- Arizona state Sun Devils - 8-2 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- Cincinnati Bearcats - 7-3 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- Baylor Bears - 6-3 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- Houston Cougars - 6-3 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- Kansas Jayhawks - 6-3 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- Oklahoma State Cowboys - 6-3 overall, 0-0 Big 12Â
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 6-3 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- Kansas State Wildcats - 7-4 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- UCF Knights - 4-3 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- Utah Utes - 4-3 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- BYU Cougars - 4-5 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- TCU Horned Frogs - 4-5 overall, 0-0 Big 12
- Arizona Wildcats - 1-7 overall, 0-0 Big 12
Even though things started off a bit bumpy for Tadlock and his Red Raiders, at 6-3 overall, Texas Tech is in a solid spot right now. And with the longest active winning streak in the Big 12 that is likely to keep stretching out, there’s a fair bit of momentum happening out in Lubbock right now and we’ll learn more about it soon enough.
