As Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders get set to face off against the Iowa State Cyclones, they’ve got a pretty sizable advantage in several major stats categories. Seriously, I don’t think too many people are going to be shocked at ht

As the No. 2 Red Raiders (31-2 overall, 8-1 Big 12) host the Cyclones (20-10 overall, 3-3 Big 12) for a three-game series this weekend, Texas Tech is currently on a six-game winning streak and is set to take on a team that has a five-game winning streak.

Still, despite the similarities of those winning streaks, the Red Raiders have looked considerably better than the Cyclones and the stats show that these two teams are fairly different.

Stats comparison: Texas Tech has a considerably impressive edge over the Iowa State Cyclones

Right now, Texas Tech has a batting average advantage of .397 over Iowa State’s .330. The Red Raiders have managed to score 327 runs in 33 games (just under 10 runs per game) while Iowa State has scored 211 runs in 30 games (a little over seven runs per game). Texas Tech has hit 66 home runs on the season. Iowa State has hit 40.

Those are some noteworthy differences.

And then there’s some of the pitching stats, where Texas Tech has a team ERA of 1.51 while Iowa State’s team ERA is sitting at 4.12.

When it comes to strikeouts, Texas Tech’s pitching staff has struck out 226 batters this season while Iowa State has struck out 101 batters. The Cyclones’ pitching staff allows batters to hit with a .289 batting average against them. Opposing batters have just a .170 batting average against Texas Tech.

Oh, and Texas Tech has 79 stolen bases on the season. Iowa State has just 24 stolen bases this season. That’s pretty different too.

Iowa State is solid at the plate, but it really seems like the differences in the circle might be what sets these teams apart.
