During Big 12 media days, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire was given the opportunity to talk about the reunion that took place between him and Micah Hudson as the talented wide receiver ended up entering the transfer portal, getting set to play elsewhere, and then returning to Lubbock to be with the Red Raiders once again.
The situation was a bit unique (and somewhat odd), but what matters at the end of the day is that Hudson returned and there was a reconciliation that McGuire said took place between the head coach and the wide receiver.
As McGuire was wrapping up his explanation of what that process looked like to get Hudson back to Texas Tech, the Red Raiders head coach noted the sort of standard that he has for every member of his team.
“Through the spring and the summer, our mindset as a team is make the main thing the main thing,” McGuire explained. “The main thing is be on time.”

Punctuality matters. The little things matter. They add up. I can get on board with that sort of thing (even if I am occasionally late to things and have to set extra alarms and reminders to keep up with things throughout the day).
“The second part is when you walk into the building or walk on the field, empty the tank,” McGuire said. “This is the standard we’re going to practice at and that’s all I’m asking out of these guys right now.”
That’s not a bad standard to have. It’s simple and something that everyone can follow and you can build upon that foundation as needed.
As for how all of that connects to Hudson?
“He’s done that this summer and so I‘m glad to have him back,” McGuire said. “I think it’s going to be a great story.”
It’s a story that is certainly worth keeping an eye on. Hudson has a ton of talent and it seems like there will be opportunities for him to have an impact on the Red Raiders as he continues to develop. It’ll be fun to see where his career takes him and to see how he contributes this season.
