The hiring of Mack Leftwich is providing the Texas Tech Red Raiders with a lot of fun in their first game of the season. And that shouldn’t be shocking. First and foremost, the Texas Tech football team is playing against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions. And then, some other important context, this is the sort of thing that Leftwich does.

His offenses move quickly. They’re going to stretch the field. They’re going to execute well. There will be a lot of points. And as I write this, that’s certainly the case. Leftwich’s offense is putting the Red Raiders in the end zone against the Golden Lions seemingly time and time again without any issues.

It has been a ton of fun to watch. And so, I think it’s important to watch the first touchdown pass of the season again. Let’s enjoy and celebrate that.

Watch: Behren Morton effortlessly connects with Reggie Virgil for Texas Tech’s first touchdown of the 2025 season

Texas Tech’s first drive took a grand total of just four plays. FOUR plays. And that was in just 1:07 of game time. One minute. Seven seconds. That’s it. The Red Raiders used those four plays to go down the field, gain 39 yards, and subsequently scored seven points.

And from nine yards out, Behren Morton was able to easily connect with Reggie Virgil, who hauled the pass in and got Texas Tech into the end zone for the first time in this game (and on the season).

This was just perfect. From start to finish. The Red Raiders had no issues with this drive. They had a couple of carries for 18 yards and a couple of pass completions for 21 yards and the Red Raiders scored seven points.

That’s exactly the sort of drive that Red Raider fans will want to see on a more regular basis. And honestly, it’s the same sort of drive that happened throughout much of the first half for Texas Tech. Leftwich was a phenomenal hire at offensive coordinator and it’s going to be so much fun to watch this offense all season long.
