It’s game day, folks! Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders will get their portion of the 2025 college football season started this evening in Lubbock as they take on the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in Jones AT&T Stadium.
And this is absolutely a game that they should be able to win with ease. Right now, ESPN’s Matchup Predictor tool, which is connected to the Football Power Index and ESPN Analytics, has the Red Raiders with a 99 percent chance of winning this game.
Which, you know, feels good.
This is the start of a season that could be pretty great for Texas Tech football fans. We’re talking about a season that comes on the heels of really impressive recruiting, a couple of great coordinator hires, and a ton of chatter. There’s a lot of folks anticipating this season in a pretty noteworthy way. And it’s going to get started this evening.
Here’s what you need to know to keep up with the Red Raiders this evening.

This is a good opportunity to get the season started with a pretty solid and one-sided sort of win. Arkansas-Pine Bluff is an FCS team that just doesn’t seem to be quite that impressive in recent years and that should yield the lopsided results that Texas Tech fans will want to see.
The Red Raiders shouldn’t struggle here. They shouldn’t run into issues. They should be able to score a bunch of points and they should be able to limit Arkansas-Pine Bluff from doing too much of anything in this game. I, for one, am looking forward to that.
