Look, at this point, I don’t know how much a school produced highlight reel would help sell a NFL draft prospect to a team. But if you needed a highlight reel to remind you that Caleb Douglas was one of the most enjoyable and fascinating wide receivers in the Big 12 this past season, then the Texas Tech Red Raiders are here to help.
Douglas was a thrilling receiver to watch with Texas Tech and he truly emerged as a deep threat that the Red Raiders could routinely turn to just about whenever he was needed. Which was a welcomed development because Douglas never seemingly clicked with things while in Gainesville and playing for the Florida Gators.
But in two seasons for Texas Tech, things really worked out well for him (and also Texas Tech’s offense).
This highlight reel shows how Caleb Douglas went from Florida transfer to a legitimate force at wide receiver for Texas Tech’s offense
Just check out this highlight reel, there’s a ton of fun to relive from it:
While playing on the road at West Virginia, Douglas managed to catch five passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Against Houston (again, on the road), Douglas hauled in seven receptions for 114 yards. And then against Oklahoma State, he caught five passes for 98 yards. Then there’s the road game against the Kansas State Wildcats, where he managed to get eight receptions for just 82 yards, but also had two touchdown receptions.
In an offense that was full of electrifying playmakers but also had to navigate a number of different quarterback injury and availability issues, Douglas managed to catch 54 passes for 854 yards and seven touchdowns this past season.
In the two seasons that he spent in Lubbock, Douglas managed to catch 114 passes that were hurled his way for 1723 yards and 13 touchdowns. Which is far better than the two seasons he played for the Gators, which allowed him to catch 21 passes for 308 yards and three touchdowns.
