We’ve got more College Football Playoff projections! Texas Tech is getting more and more attention as the season continues on and the Red Raiders look like a team that is capable of competing amongst some of the best in the country.

For example, Brad Crawford over at CBS Sports has Texas Tech as one of the five best teams in the College Football Playoff.

To be a bit more specific and precise here, Crawford’s College Football Playoff projection puts the Red Raiders in as the No. 5 seed in the country and matching up with the No. 12 seed USF Bulls in a first round matchup in Lubbock.

I mean, you can go ahead and sign me up for that, please.

Texas Tech Red Raiders earn No. 5 seed in latest CBS College Football Playoff projection

There’s a lot of football to be played between now and when the seeding for the 2025 College Football Playoff is announced (and a lot of things can certainly change between now and then), but I’ve got to say that I absolutely love this sort of draw for the Red Raiders.

And it’s not that I think South Florida is a bad team, but I think this is a good matchup for Texas Tech. Alex Golesh, the head coach of the USF Bulls, operates basically the same sort of offense that we’re seeing in Lubbock with Mack Leftwich (and I’d selfishly like to see more of those sorts of matchups between veer-and-shoot teams).

Because of that similarity, and because of the talent and depth that Texas Tech has on defense, I think the Red Raiders would be ready for this one. And should the Red Raiders get this hypothetical matchup in the College Football Playoff and also if Texas Tech wins, then we’d get to see a matchup with the Oregon Ducks. I, for one, would enjoy that as well.
