Well, this is an interesting one. For one reason or another, Erick Smith over at USA Today isn’t exactly keen on the Texas Tech Red Raiders and their postseason hopes. While others seem to believe in what Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders are doing, Smith doesn’t seem to be easily swayed by what’s happening out in Lubbock this season.

It wasn’t that long ago that Smith had the Red Raiders heading to meet up with the Vanderbilt Commodores in the First Responders Bowl, which isn’t anywhere close to what Texas Tech actually wants to accomplish this season. And given the way Vandy is playing this year, it seems unlikely that they’d be happy with that bowl destination too.

Now, it’s worth including how Smith did include the Red Raiders in his College Football Playoff prediction last week, but then inexplicably dropped Texas Tech from it this week.

Instead, the Red Raiders are projected to meet up with the Washington Huskies in the Alamo Bowl.

USA Today’s Erick Smith put together a bowl projection that place Texas Tech in the Alamo Bowl vs. the Washington Huskies

And I want to be clear, I’m not speaking ill of the Alamo Bowl. I just don’t think this particular Texas Tech Red Raider team will be in it. Not with what we’ve seen from this team against their first four foes this season.

Especially when you look at what McGuire and the Red Raiders did to Utah in Utah’s own stadium.

Now, would I enjoy seeing Texas Tech and Washington play? Absolutely. I think Jedd Fisch is steadily building an impressive program up in Seattle and that he’s got a ton of talent, especially on offense, that he’s accumulating and developing.

That’s a matchup that would be a ton of fun to watch. But I don’t want to see that in the Alamo Bowl. Not for the way this Texas Tech team has been assembled and all the talent that the Red Raiders have across the board.
