It’s weird to think that the Houston Cougars could make it all the way to the Big 12 championship game this season. I mean, the Coogs might just have the easiest path to making it into the conference title game, despite the fact that they are tied for third place (with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and with TTU having the tiebreaker) and the fact that Houston’s offense just isn’t remarkable.
But the Coogs keep winning and they’ve got a pretty easy schedule up ahead of them. It’s certainly manageable. This weekend they’ve got the West Virginia Mountaineers who are 0-5 in Big 12 play and 2-6 overall. After that, the Cougars get the UCF Knights who are 4-3 overall and 1-3 vs Big 12 teams and then the tCU Horned Frogs and Baylor Bears (who could both present interesting challenges).

How does this game impact Texas Tech? What should Red Raider fans know about this game?
Again, Texas Tech has already handled the Houston Cougars, but that doesn’t mean that Willie Fritz and UH are out of the Big 12 championship race. Again, it’s important to remember that right now, Houston might actually have the easiest path to getting into the conference title game.
So, seeing the Cougars lose wouldn’t be the worst thing ever for Texas Tech fans. Right now, both UH and Texas Tech are 7-1 overall and 4-1 in Big 12 play. A loss for the Cougars would give Texas Tech a hold of the No. 3 spot in the Big 12 standings as both Houston and the Red Raiders are tied (with Texas Tech having the tiebreaker) and are behind the Cincinnati Bearcats and BYU Cougars.
So yeah, it’d be nice for West Virginia to go ahead and get its first conference win of the season. It’d be nice to see the Cougars lose some ground in the Big 12 race.
