The first day of the Women’s College World Series was pretty eventful, all things considered. And to get the festivities started, the Texas Longhorns managed to hand the Florida Gators a 3-0 defeat. Which, for Texas, probably felt pretty good.

For the Gators? Well, not so great.

And why is that?

Well, it’s because Texas is now in position to get a day to kick back and take a break while Florida has to fight to stay alive in the Women’s College World Series and the Gators have to play sooner rather than later.

Texas is in the winners’ bracket, which is always something that a team wants to celebrate and enjoy and such. As for Florida? Well, the Gators are facing elimination. And between now and the 2025 WCWS championship series, the Gators can’t afford to lose a single game. One more loss and Florida is headed home to *checks notes* Florida.

2025 Women’s College World Series bracket: How does UT beating Florida impact things?

Here’s what UT’s win (or UF’s loss, depending on how you want to frame things) impacts the 2025 Women’s College World Series bracket:

Texas is moving on to the winners’ bracket and means that the Longhorns won’t play again until Game 7 rolls around. Given that UT played in Game 1, that’s a fair bit of a break to consider there. As for Florida? Well, the Gators will play in Game 5. They’ll try to avoid elimination.

What’s fun about the way things shook out here (whether or not the teams find it fun, I don’t know) is that Texas will get to meet up with one of its longtime rivals and Florida will also get to meet up with one of its longtime rivals. The Longhorns will get to face the Oklahoma Sooners and Florida will soon take on the Tennessee Lady Vols.
