To get things started in Oklahoma City, the Texas Longhorns managed to claim the very first win of the 2025 Women’s College World Series by completely and totally shutting out the Florida Gators in a pretty impressive way.
We’re talking about a complete and total dominant performance from Teagan Kavan as she managed to throw a complete game shutout. Sure, Kavan may have allowed a couple of hits and issued a couple of walks, but the most noteworthy thing is that Kavan and the Texas Longhorns happened to keep Florida from scoring a single run in this game.
And again, that’s pretty impressive. Especially when you consider that Texas was able to rack up seven hits in this game, which is considerably more than the two that Florida put together against the Longhorns. One more time: that’s really solid.
And it’s also worth noting that while this doesn’t have a direct impact on the Texas Tech softball team at the moment, it could certainly impact things later down the line in the Women’s College World Series if both Texas Tech and the Longhorns managed to keep trucking along.
Texas Longhorns grab first win of Women’s College World Series by beating Florida
By beating the Florida Gators, Texas will get to meet up with the Oklahoma Sooners during the next game that UT and OU both will play, which happens to be game seven of the WCWS on Saturday, May 31 at p.m., which is going to be interesting. Both Texas and OU are in the SEC right now. So, that’s fun, I guess.
And again, Texas Tech won’t immediately meet up with the Sooners, but it could happen in the championship series, if both teams make it all the way that far. We’ll see how all of that plays out. It’s not something we need to focus on too urgently, but it is something worth watching.
