We’re now through two days of the 2025 Women’s College World Series and the field is starting to get a bit smaller. Not the actual playing surface, but rather the number of teams that are left competing and trying to claw their way to a national championship in Oklahoma City. That group. It’s gotten a good bit smaller after Day 2 of the Women’s College World Series.
Two elimination games were played Friday evening as the Oregon Ducks, Ole Miss Rebels, Tennessee Lady Vols, and the Florida Gators all fought for the opportunity to stick around in the 2025 Women’s College World Series.
However, two teams from that bunch were sent right on home. The winners advanced and will play in more elimination games soon enough. The losers are out of OKC. Their time in the WCWS has come to a close.
And as it worked out, both of the teams that got eliminated during Day 2 were from the Southeastern Conference.
Which teams were eliminated during Day 2 of the Women’s College World Series?
The Florida Gators were the first team to get booted out of the 2025 Women’s College World Series. After a really strong season, the wheels just kind of came off at the end there. They didn’t have enough firepower to keep up with a very motivated Tennessee team and were eliminated in a run rule beatdown. The Lady Vols truly looked like a championship caliber sort of team against Florida on Friday.
Later in the evening and into the late hours of the night, the Ole Miss Rebels did their best to go toe-for-toe with the Oregon Ducks. And they played a bit of a marathon of a college softball game. This is a contest that went into extra innings and involved a ton of blunders and baserunners stranded.
But at the end of it, Ole Miss was sent home as the Oregon Ducks eliminated them thanks to a 6-5 win in the 10th inning.
What’s next for the 2025 WCWS?
On to Day 3! We are out of the elimination bracket for a brief minute and we’ll get to see two games happening on Saturday in the winner’s bracket (which is a much cozier and relaxing place to be than the alternative).
During Day 3 of the 2025 Women’s College World Series, we’ll get a chance to watch the Texas Tech Red Raiders meet up with the UCLA Bruins while the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners also face off.
The winners from these games will still be in the winner’s bracket. The losers, on the other hand, will get the opportunity to meet up with the likes of the ORegon Ducks and the Tennessee Lady Vols in the elimination bracket.
