The race to the Big 12 championship game just keeps getting tighter and tighter. Arizona State got bumped down a bit after the Sun Devils lost at home against the Houston Cougars, meaning there are four teams left in the conference with one or fewer losses against a conference opponent.

Texas Tech is of course one of those four teams. The Houston Cougars happen to be included in that bunch as well. Same with the BYU Cougars, who have gotten plenty of well-deserved attention all throughout the past few weeks for the way they’ve been playing as of late.

The last of those four teams?

The Cincinnati Bearcats, who managed to steamroll right past the Baylor Bears en route to a 41-20 win at home against one of the most prolific passing attacks in the country.

If you haven’t been paying close attention to how the Bearcats have been playing, you’ve missed out on a Cincinnati team that looks dominant, balanced, and efficient as they’ve controlled games throughout the season.

What should Texas Tech fans know after Cincinnati handled business against the Baylor Bears to remain unbeaten in Big 12 play?

That road loss to Arizona State stings a bit more as the Bearcats just keep staying unbeaten in Big 12 play. The good news is BYU and Cincinnati have to play one another, so as long as the Red Raiders can remain unbeaten down the rest of the way, the Big 12 race will clear up a bit for Texas Tech.

Which is good, because Cincinnati doesn’t show many signs of slowing down right now.

Against Baylor, the Bearcats defense managed to halt one of the best offenses in the country by just simply limiting possessions and avoiding mistakes. Cincinnati was able to sack Sawyer Robertson on a couple occasions, forced and recovered a couple of fumbles, and kept the Bears offense off the field. The Bears didn’t even have 25 minutes of possession while facing Cincinnati.

The Bearcats have been sneaky good all season. And while that’s a fun story to keep up with, it’s looking like Cincinnati might try to get in the way of the Red Raiders getting to the Big 12 championship game. And I, for one, would appreciate it if that weren’t the case.
