When Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders got a commitment from four-star running back SaRod Baker, the 2027 Red Raider recruiting class got a good bit better. And that’s from a few different angles. Baker became the first running back to commit to play for Texas Tech as part of the 2027 recruiting cycle.
And also there’s the whole thing about measuring the Red Raiders up against the rest of the conference. Because if you do that, then you’ll see that Texas Tech getting Baker to commit really helped secure Texas Tech as the top of the Big 12.
2027 4-star SaRod Baker’s recent commitment to Texas Tech added to the Red Raiders’ recruiting lead over the rest of the Big 12
This is how On3 currently has the Red Raiders and the rest of the Big 12 ranked when looking at the 2027 recruiting classes for the conference:
- No. 1: Texas Tech Red Raiders - 8 commits
- No. 2: Baylor Bears - 6 commits
- No. 3: Kansas State Wildcats - 11 commits
- No. 4: Houston Cougars - 7 commits
- No. 5: Iowa State Cyclones - 6 commits
- No. 6: Arizona State - 5 commits
- No. 7: Colorado - 3 commits
- No. 8: West Virginia Mountaineers - 8 commits
- No. 9: BYU - 3 commits
- No. 10: Utah - 3 commits
- No. 11: Cincinnati - 5 commits
And that’s where it ends, technically. Right now, On3 actually doesn’t have rankings for the other teams in the Big 12. But if we were to list them out (in alphabetical order), those teams would be as follows:
- Arizona - 3 commits
- Kansas - 2 commits
- Oklahoma State - 1 commit
- TCU - 2 commits
- UCF Knights - 0 commits
It’s just not all that close for the Red Raiders and that’s a good thing. And when you factor in the sort of recruiting pipelines that McGuire and the Red Raiders can use to continue to pull top end talent to Lubbock over the next few months leading up to signing day, there’s a good chance that this recruiting advantage continues to grow for Texas Tech.
