The Red Raiders have one of the most successful bowl resumes in college football.

With 36 post-season appearances, Texas Tech ranks 4th in the Big 12 and 17th in the NCAA.

Despite having a 14-21 record in bowl games, the program’s 14 wins rank 13th in the nation. The first bowl game for the Red Raiders was in the 1938 Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas where Tech faced off with one of their future conference rivals, West Virginia. Tech has appeared in the Sun Bowl nine times which is the most appearances for any team in the nation’s second-oldest bowl game.

Red Raider fans have been apart of setting attendance records at 10 different bowl games. And two of those records still stand; the 2004 Holiday Bowl when Tech upset No. 4 ranked California and their star quarterback Aaron Rogers, and the 2009 Cotton Bowl, the final Cotton Bowl game to be played at the Cotton Bowl stadium on the Texas state fair grounds in Dallas.

The Red Raiders also own the record for the largest comeback in bowl history. In the 2006 Insight Bowl, Tech trailed the Minnesota Golden Gophers 38-7 in the second half before scoring 31 consecutive points to tie the game. Tech would force overtime on a 52-yard Alex Trlica field goal and win the game by scoring a touchdown on the first overtime series.
