No. 3: Texas

The Longhorns had the best pass defense in the conference last season; by almost twenty percent. Making that stat even more impressive, Texas faced all the spread offenses of the Big 12 (second place West Virginia didn’t have to face their own passing attack), and Brett Hundley of UCLA in their out of conference schedule.

Even though Texas lost Quandre Diggs, they signed a bevy of elite high school talent with top-tier physical tools that have all played against some of the best competition in the country. Holton Hill, Kris Boyd, and Davante Davis are the seventh, eleventh, and twenty-ninth ranked CBs in the country, respectively. And the ‘Horns also brought in DeShon Elliott, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound safety that may compete for a starting job late in the season.

If the newcomers can’t hold up early in the season to Notre Dame and TCU (both away games), look for the youngsters to come in and get some experience before facing three true spread offenses at the back end of their schedule.
