The Horned Frogs lose both outstanding linebackers (Paul Dawson and Marcus Mallet) in their 4-2-5 system, and still somehow make number four, if for no other reason than a great deal of respect for Gary Patterson and his propensity to churn out solid defenses.

When a coach names a true freshman and former three-star linebacker to the starting role, it’s because of two things: he’s head-turning and frightening. Patterson gave Mike Freeze the nod at one of the starting positions, with Sammy Douglas at the other.
