No. 4 Billy Joe Tolliver

From the tiny town of Boyd, Texas came one of the best quarterbacks to don the Scarlet and Black, Billy Joe Tolliver. The 4-year starter had a huge arm and was a fearless competitor.

In 1985, Tolliver set school records for passing yards (422) and touchdown passes (5) in a single game as Texas Tech defeated TCU 63-7. In 1986, Tolliver led Texas Tech to six wins and a birth in the Independence Bowl. It was the first bowl appearance for Texas Tech since 1978.

Tolliver left Texas Tech as the school’s all-time leading passer with 6,756 yards as well as holding school records for career pass completions (493), career touchdown passes (38), single season passing yards (2,869) and single game passing yards (446).

Tolliver went on to have an 11 year professional football career playing 10 seasons in the NFL. He amasses 59 touchdown passes and 10,760 yards making him the most productive Texas Tech quarterback to play in the NFL.
