Starter: Brandon Carter

Easily the most recognizable Red Raider in history, the man with the Mohawk haircut and painted face is No. 1 on the all-time Texas Tech two-deep roster. But Carter was more than a sideshow oddity; he was a terrific football player.

In 2008, Carter was named an all-American as part of the Texas Tech offensive line that paved the way for the Red Raiders to climb to a program best No. 2 in the national polls.

Carter was also the emotional leader for Texas Tech. His passion and fire were evident to all fans making him one of the most beloved Red Raiders in recent memory. After his collegiate career, Carter spent a few years chasing his dream of becoming a professional wrestler, after all, he had already perfected the look while at Texas Tech.

Backup: Dan Irons

The Lubbock native Irons was a 6-foot-7, 270-pound all-American at Texas Tech. A 1966 all-Southwest Conference selection, Irons was named a consensus all-American in 1967. Irons was a terrific athlete excelling at tennis and even being recruited by many schools to play basketball.
