No. 20 Dan Irons (Offensive Tackle 1975-1977)

The 20th-ranked player on the Texas Tech all-time countdown is one of the most accomplished offensive linemen in program history. At 6-foot-7 and 260-pounds, Irons was a behemoth in the late 1970’s.

The graduate of Lubbock’s Monterey High School was named a consensus all-American in 1977 as well as an all-Southwest Conference selection in 1976 and 1977.

Irons was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1978 NFL Draft but knee injuries kept him from pursuing an NFL career. In 1999, Irons was inducted into the Texas Tech Hall of Honor and in 2015 he was selected to enter the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
