DeMarkus Acy

3-star safety, Dallas, TX

Acy is another commit Texas Tech is trying to flip from the Missouri Tigers. The 6-foot-1, 186-pound safety is one of the top defensive backs in the state and it is easy to imagine that defensive coordinator David Gibbs is salivating over Acy given Gibbs’ acumen for coaching safeties.

Along with Mizzou and Tech, Acy has offers from Arizona State, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas and SMU. But despite the numerous offers, Acy is considered a solid commit to Missouri.

However, that did not stop him from visiting Texas Tech last weekend. The product of Dallas’ Wilmer Hutchins High School speaks highly of his relationship with Emmett Jones, which may be Texas Tech’s best chance of flipping Acy before signing day.

Acy’s family accompanied him on his visit to the South Plains and he indicates that he is friends with a number of current Texas Tech 2016 commits from the Dallas area. Still, Texas Tech has its work cut out if it wants to land the big-time prospect.

Acy still speaks highly of Missouri and like Marvin Terry he seems comfortable with the promotion of Barry Odom to Missouri head coach. Acy also might visit Austin to see what the Longhorns have to offer before making his final decision.

This prospect seems like another long shot to end up at Texas Tech but as with any high school senior, much can change in two weeks.
