Following a team meeting on Monday evening, Texas Tech Football coaches and administrators unveiled brand new locker rooms.

Texas Tech players returned from a much needed break to yet another brand new facility on Monday, with its newly renovated football locker room.

Back in the spring when the old locker room was razed, it happened with very little information, like how long the upgrade had been in the works for, or what was to be expected. Following a new “under the radar” approach, head coach Kliff Kingsbury and the staff stayed quiet until just 10 minutes before the big announcement on Twitter last night.

The Campaign for Fearless Champions funded the project, which has been able to fund 22 of 25 facilities projects on the Texas Tech campus through generous donations. According to the press release, the Campaign has also doubled the department’s scholarship, and program endowments.

The last of the major component in Texas Tech’s rebuilding of the football infrastructure is the Sports Performance Center, which is scheduled to open just before the 2017 season. The SPC will house Tech’s much needed indoor practice football field, which will come in handy during inclement weather.

The project cost $1.6 million, and was a significant upgrade to the dilapidated facility it replaced. The new locker rooms begin with a new entrance, where players and staff will be greeted to a graphic that says, “Win The Turnover Battle.”

When you walk past two sets of double doors, you arrive at a foyer, featuring a display of Texas Tech’s current gear, and a wall of helmets. Behind the helmets is a players’ lounge, featuring high definition television sets, and a large leather sofa for players to study and relax.

Past that, is a vintage LED Double-T logo on the ceiling, 120 steel lockers, state-of-the-art lighting, 60-inch HD television sets above the lockers, and a new showering area that looks like a boutique hotel.

Last month, Texas Tech’s weight room received a face lift, including new mats, graphics, and upgraded equipment. While that unveiling didn’t receive as much attention, it did provide strength and conditioning coach Rusty Whitt an opportunity to customize some elements to help better train athletes in his system.

Here are some shots of the new facility through the lenses of various media:

From a recruiting standpoint, this significantly bolsters Texas Tech’s pitch, as it not only shows dedication and commitment to building the program up, but dedication to the needs of student-athletes themselves.

While many still don’t understand how productive a recruiting tool social media can be, any photo recruits put out of a facility serves as priceless advertising; a billboard, if you will. The more attractive Texas Tech looks, the more recruits will view Lubbock as a serious contender, and that’s been the Achilles Heel for recruiting for years now.

According to the recruiting calendar, teams are in a “Quiet Period” now, meaning communication and unofficial on-campus visits are permitted, so it begs the question, on just how many of Tech’s targets will be headed up to Lubbock in the next few weeks.
