Five Red Raiders That Could Be Drafted In 2019
Inside Receiver De’Quan Bowman
While Texas Tech has become famous for fifth-year senior quarterbacks that make the most of their one season to start, that looks to be the case for inside receiver De’Quan Bowman in 2018.
With the loss of 2017 starting slot receivers Cam Batson and Keke Coutee, Texas Tech is looking for new stars at inside receiver. Bowman, a former JUCO all-American has drawn rave reviews from Kliff Kingsbury this spring and he could be positioned for a breakout senior season. Fans might have seen him score a touchdown in the spring game and that could have been the first time many would have heard his name.
But the talent is there for Bowman. In 2015 at Hutchinson Community College, he was a star. In two JUCO seasons, he racked up 84 catches and 1,306 yards.
And Bowman could possess another skill that would make him a viable NFL prospect. While in the JUCO ranks, he was a fantastic kick returner. In 2015, he ranked 24th in the nation in kick return yards and he took a punt 81 yards for a score. He is likely to be Texas Tech’s primary kick returner this season giving him another opportunity to showcase a valuable NFL skill.
Fortunately for Bowman, the modern NFL has come to crave speedy slot receivers and that is due in large part to Texas Tech legends like Wes Welker and Danny Amendola. Now, he looks to follow in the footsteps of recent Texas Tech slot receivers Jakeem Grant and 2018 draft hopeful Keke Coutee and make a name for himself in the NFL.
Still, Bowman will need to have an effective season at Texas Tech in 2018 before entertaining any ideas of being drafted. The opportunities are certain to be there, the question is whether he will be able to make the most of them.
