Running back Demarcus Felton

Prior to the season, many predicted that the running backs would carry the Texas Tech football team this season.  However, virtually no one expected senior Demarcus Felton to be one of the stars.

But Saturday night, the senior who announced his intention to leave the program following spring practice, had the best game of his career.  Felton ran for 121 yards on just 12 carries (10.1 average) and two huge touchdowns.

Felton actually ran for more yards (123) and the same number of touchdowns in a 2016 win over Louisiana Tech but that game was far less important than this win to open conference play.  And last year, Felton appeared in only six games as he fell to the bottom of the depth chart carrying the ball only 22 times on the season.

But with fellow running backs Da’Leon Ward and Tre King slowed by injuries, Felton became the de facto leader of the running back position group and his veteran presence was huge.  When Texas Tech wanted to grind out yards to keep the clock rolling and force the OSU offense to become spectators, Tech ruined to Felton who repeatedly gashed the Cowboys up the gut.

This performance had to be fulfilling for a senior who decided to return to the Texas Tech football program despite not knowing if he would even have a role on the team.  Now it appears that he is going to be a key member of the offense moving forward and for his work against OSU he certainly deserves a game ball.
