Deshawn Corprew: Forward 6-foot-5, 210 pounds

Another potential scorer off the bench could be Deshawn Corprew.  The native of Virginia played the last two seasons at South Plains College where he put up 12.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in helping the Texans win the NJCAA national title.

Coming out of high school, Corprew was a top-100 player in the nation.  He held offers from some of the biggest programs in the game including Kansas, Louisville, North Carolina State, Texas and Texas A&M.  In fact, Corprew signed with Texas A&M out of high school but did not qualify academically leading him to South Plains

At SPC, he was a versatile scorer hitting 36.5% of his three-point attempts.  Corprew had 21 games of at least 10 points last year including six 20-point games.  His season best was a 27-point effort against Indian Hills and he had 21 huge points in the NJCAA title game.

On this year’s Texas Tech basketball team, Corprew will be asked to provide scoring off the bench.  He could fill a role similar to that played by Brandone Francis last season.  He has the athleticism to get to the rim and it will be important for him to make certain that he does not settle for jumpers as he averaged 2.7 three-point attempts per game last season.

One important note is that Corprew still has three years of eligibility remaining after he redshirted as a true freshman at SPC.  He could eventually be a player similar to Toddrick Gotcher who was a guard that was known for his toughness and clutch three-point shooting for the Red Raiders from 2011-2016.
