Linebacker Jordyn Brooks

On a night when Texas Tech fans said goodbye to senior linebacker Dakota Allen, his heir apparent put on a show.  Registering a team-high 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks junior linebacker Jordyn Brooks picked up the slack when Allen had to exit his second-consecutive game because of a knee injury.

It was by-far Brooks’ best game of the season eclipsing his previous season-high by six stops.  This was the sixth time in his career that the Houston native has had double-digit tackles in a game including a career-high 18 against Baylor during his freshman season.

Though Allen is the star of the Red Raider defense, partially because of his appearance on Last Chance U, Brooks has now taken over as the team’s leading tackler with 61 stops on the season, two more than Allen.  And with 26 tackles in the last two games when Allen has missed significant time, Brooks has taken on a leadership role with his play helping Red Raider fans be confident that the defense is in good hands next year when Allen is playing on Sundays.

One of the most productive linebackers in program history, Brooks is in search of his third-straight 80-tackle season.  He burst on to the scene as a true freshman with 85 tackles only to best that total by four last year.

Thanks to Brooks and his teammates in the interior of the defense, Texas Tech held the Longhorns to 3.3 yards per rush, over half-a-yard less than their season average.  Brooks continues to be one of the best linebackers in the country that few people talk about but with more games like he had against Texas, that will certainly change.
