Jahmius Ramsey: 6-foot-5, 195-pounds; 4-star guard; Duncanville, Texas

The bell-cow of the 2019 class is 4-star guard Jahmius Ramsey out of Duncanville, Texas.  As the No. 33 overall player in the country, he is the highest-rated high school prospect to ever sign with the Red Raiders.

He had offers from Louisville, Memphis, Indiana, Miami, Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Illinois, Kansas State, LSU, Maryland, N.C. State, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas A&M.  He is rated the No. 3 player in Texas and may wind up being a 5-star prospect by the time he arrives on campus.

With sophomore forward Jarrett Culver possibly headed to the NBA next summer, Ramsey’s addition is key because he would instantly be asked to fill the scoring void should the Lubbock native Culver move on.  And he should be more than capable of doing just that.

Last summer, on the prestigious Nike EYBL circuit he averaged 15.6 points, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals helping his stock to soar.  He is a player that is hard-nosed on both ends of the court attacking the rim with fury and playing lock-down defense.

His demeanor on the court is reminiscent of former Red Raider guard Toddrick Gotcher but his offensive skill is unparalleled by any recruit ever to sign with Texas Tech.  If the scouting reports are accurate, he will be a perfect fit in Chris Beard’s system.

"“Watching him play, you can tell he’s a serious-minded player,” 247Sports director of basketball scouting Jerry Meyer told the Avalanche-Journal.  “And he likes to play physical and is competitive. I’ve liked what I’ve seen, especially his focus and that he isn’t afraid of contact.”"

Ramsey gave his verbal commitment to Chris Beard just last week and his addition took the recruiting class to a completely new level.  He will be expected to do the same for the Red Raiders on the court next season.
