OL Trevor Roberson

One of the most disappointing aspects of the 2018 football season was the awful play of the offensive line.  After entering the season with over 90 combined starts, the Red Raider OL seemed to get worse as the year unfolded despite surfing no devastating injuries to the five players that started the season opener.

Tech needs its offensive line to improve and right now, it has only one offensive lineman in the 2019 recruiting class, Trevor Roberson from Wellington, Texas. The massive 6-foot-11, 355-pound three-star prospect is the No. 70 overall player in Texas and No. 40 offensive tackle in the nation.

He holds offers from Arkansas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Houston, Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Norte Dame, Oklahoma, TCU, USC and Virginia.  He took official visits to Texas A&M and Arkansas in April but committed to Texas Tech after his visit in June.

Next year, both of the Texas Tech starting tackles, Travis Bruffy and Terence Steele, will be seniors meaning that there will be a need for plenty of competition at tackle in 2020 when Roberson would be a redshirt freshman.  Regardless of whether Tech stays with the spread offense or whether the new coach goes to a different scheme, Tech will need better play on the offensive line.  That’s why, it is critical for the Red Raiders to hang on to the only OL commit it currently has in the fold.
